Our guidelines (please read)
Poetry: Up to five (5) pieces, no more than 10 pages in length.
Prose: Up to 4,000 words
Art: Any medium, up to five (5) pieces.
Formatting:
Writers: we ask that you format with a Garamond (or something like that) font, 12pt. Please submit only .doc/.docx.
Include a cover letter, your name and email, and a small biography on the first page of your submission document*. The letter may be in depth or just a simple ‘Hi, I’m submitting this.’
While our taste buds often lean strange, obscure, absurdist, or esoteric, we do value quality. Know the rules you are breaking before you break them. Please see our archives for a more in depth look into the type of writing we publish.
Please format visual art submissions in whatever way is easiest for you. Email any files that are too large to sardinecancollective@gmail.com.
*If your email is not at the top of the document, you will likely never hear back from us, as our submission pool is too large to track down individual emails.
Here is a template that roughly displays what we look for.
Other stuff:
We focus on queer, trans, and woman identifying writers, but accept work from all genders and identities.
We are not currently a paying market.
We no longer offer expedited responses and feedback. We apologize.
There is currently one way submit.
Submission Calls:
Our general, un-themed submissions are open always and accepted on a rolling basis. Expect up to two months for a turn around. These will be published in blog style in The Can, beginning in June 2026. Any published pieces are eligible for inclusion in our first annual print anthology, which will be released in 2027.
